Lizzy Hutchens
Speech Therapist

Lizzy earned her Master of Science degree in Speech-Language Pathology from Appalachian State University and holds a bachelor’s degree in communications. During graduate school, she completed a variety of clinical placements in both school and clinic settings, where she had the opportunity to work with children across K–12 as well as adults.
Through her training, Lizzy has worked with a wide range of communication needs, including speech sound disorders, fluency, language delays, social communication skills, and the use of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC). She gained hands-on experience evaluating and treating children, creating individualized therapy plans, and working closely with families. Lizzy values using research-based practices while always keeping each child’s unique needs, strengths, and personality at the center of therapy.
Originally from Charlotte, North Carolina, Lizzy is excited to be moving to the Winston-Salem community, where she has family roots. Most of her training and experience have been with the pediatric population, which is where her passion truly lies. She loves helping children find their voice and supporting them as they build confidence, independence, and communication skills that carry over into their everyday lives.
What Lizzy feels is unique about her approach is the balance she strives to create between structure and connection. She enjoys planning therapy sessions that are engaging, supportive, and fun, while still being purposeful and goal-driven. Lizzy meets children where they are, adapts activities as needed, and works to create a therapy space where children feel comfortable, motivated, and proud of their progress. Partnering with families and maintaining open communication is an important part of how she supports each child’s success.
Outside of the clinic, Lizzy enjoys reading, writing, cooking, spending time outdoors, and being with family, friends, and her two spoiled cats. She is really looking forward to getting to know the families at the clinic and becoming part of the Winston-Salem and DTA community.
