Melissa is originally from Statesville, NC and wanted to become an SLP due to receiving this service as a toddler.
She wanted to give back to her community the same way they had helped her. She graduated from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 2020 with a major in Communication Sciences and Disorders as well as a minor in music.
In 2022, she graduated from North Carolina Central University with a Communication Sciences and Disorders Master’s degree. She loved the area and decided to stay. She has been living in Durham since 2020.
She has worked with children of all ages, ranging from 15 months to 18 years old. She has supported children with articulation/phonology disorders, early intervention needs, fluency disorders, children with specific language impairment, expressive language disorders, mixed receptive-expressive language disorder, ASD, Down Syndrome, pragmatic language differences, and provided augmentative/alternative communication when needed. She has worked with these children in schools, clinic settings, teletherapy, homes, daycares, and ABA centers. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with friends and family, cooking, exercising, reading, listening to podcasts, and gaming.
